playday

It's so hard to believe that we are down to the last couple days of school - once again, it seems like it was September 'yesterday' and we were starting at a new school, commuting every day while we waited for our house to be finished etc! Grade two and kindergarten are behind us and will not happen again, in this household, until the 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 school years! Crazy eh!? Anyways, with the end of a school year usually comes a few fun activities. Ethan and Jackson have both been on field trips, the kindergarten class had a year-end celebration last week, today was playday (it was called sports day when I was in school) and on Friday Ethan's class is having an outing to the local spray park... here are some playday pictures, when the families got to join the students for a picnic lunch:

Mother's Day... handmade with love!

Once again the boys have brought me home some amazing Mother's Day gifts that they made at school...

Jackson was so cute - he was telling me on Monday about a light switch cover that he was painting. I asked him about it and he told me ALL about the colours he used etc etc and then said, "I'm making it for you - for Mother's Day!" No surprises there! Then on Wednesday, he gave me a card with the masterpiece inside, telling me "I couldn't wait until Mother's Day!"

Ethan made cookies in a jar (the dry ingredients) and a great card:

'My Mom and I'....
My Mom is good at bakeing mufens.
My Mom's name is Loease.
My Mom's favourite colour is green.
My Mom is 35 years old. (one year out but in my favour!)
My Mom and I eat sea food.
My Mom and I watch movies.
My Mom and I like to bake.
My Mom and I read books.
My Mom and I go to the park.
My Mom and I play tenis on the Wii.

last day of school

While I look forward to summer and having all the kids home, it was kind of a bittersweet moment to say farewell to the school today! We went to the assembly this morning, joined in on the school's walk around the block & said goodbye! This has been the most amazing school for the past two years & one of it's huge advantages, are it's small class sizes, not to mention the best teachers ever! So as we look forward to a new chapter in our lives this fall (a new school, a new home, a new neighborhood) it is going to be sooooo hard to leave all this behind! Ethan brought home a great report card and all the teachers have commented on his intelligence etc... one of them relayed a cute story to me: I guess they were reading a story called "The Littlest Seed" and at one point the seed landed in the desert. The teacher asked the students if the seed could grow in the desert and the kids all said "no"... except Ethan, who put up his hand and then said, "it would grow if it was a casket plant" - he meant to say cactus but the teachers all smirked, knowing what Miles does!

Grade One!!!

Well I have no idea where the summer went... I know we accomplished lots and have blog entries to prove it, but everyone I talk to agrees that this was one of the "fastest summers" ever! Last week when I told Ethan that he goes back to school on Wednesday, he said, "what about the summer - it can't be over yet!?" So Wednesday came and he started grade one! MY question is "where did six years go - he can't be in school full time yet!?" He had a good day and I even registered him in the lunch program so that I don't have to load everyone up for a third/fourth trip to get him at noon and return him again... so that's a bonus :) I was denied my special request for the bus this year but got a surprise phone call from the principal this afternoon saying that she got a copy of the letter and was going to see if she could do anything for me... that would seriously be reason for a happy dance!

Field Trip!

Then on Monday... I got the priveledge of going on a field trip with Ethan's kindergarten class to the Display Ponds (a bird sactuary of sorts). After feeding the geese and ducks, as well as seeing the pelican and swans, we headed for a picnic at Candy Cane Park - note the trees painted like candy canes! Everyone was invited to bring snacks to share and that they did! We had quite the picnic indeed! This is the first field trip I've been able to go on, due to childcare issues but my friend Julie was here visiting for the week, so it was great to have her watch and play with the younger two, while I could join Ethan! (Thanks - I really had a great time)
