oh poop!!! (pun intended)

On Thursday morning we discovered that we were the recipients of a major sewer back-up in our basement! Apparently the 'living room mess' posted a week or so ago was a mild appetizer to what was yet to come! A certain little someone in our home, decided to flush some items (ahem tampons) down the toilet, who knows when, and thus resulting in our not-so-little sewer issue... the basement toilet, bathtub and the drains in the mechanical room were all backed up, being that they were closest to the point of exit. I was able to get a plumber here at 10:30am and a mere $346.61 fixed the problem, or so we thought - there seems to be a bit more water hovering in the drain so I'm pretty sure there is still a blockage somewhere! At 4pm, the amazing 'RESTOREX' crew showed up to assess of the damage and 'assured me' that we were dealing with a full fledged insurance claim! Now handing over $1,000 would be a pretty sweet and inexpensive way to get new carpet and the works, for a basement makeover, IF the home was 20-30 some years old BUT WE JUST FINISHED OUR BASEMENT LAST YEAR!!! Argh! Oh well - the professionals came in on Friday morning and hauled stuff out (my garage once again looks like moving day)... they cut out the contaminated carpet and disinfected everything, they removed casings and ruined drywall pieces, they set up a humidifier and fans to dry it all out... I meet with him again tomorrow, along with an insurance adjuster. Oh - and all the carpet will get replaced eventually too and best of all, I don't have to move a thing!
